Lost 45 pounds in 2012

This year I resolved to lose 60+ pounds -- I made it to 45, with the help of JC. I do feel better, and I am not ashamed that I did not meet the goal. I have transitioned to dieting / maintaining using my own foods and not the JC food, which I feel is healthier food (frankly).

Thanks JC, and thanks Julie and Francine, my counselors.

Looking forward to a 2013 where I maintain and even lose a little more.

Post a greeting to Queen Elizabeth

Click below to send a greeting to Queen Elizabeth II:

I just learned you can post a happy birthday/happy coronation anniversary message to Queen Elizabeth II on an official website managed by The Royal Household.

I think it's rather sweet.

I learned about this visiting the website blog of actress and artist Angela Cartwright (she of the Sound of Music, The Danny Thomas Show, and Lost in Space). You can visit her blog here:

When I was a little boy, I had a crush on her TV character, Penny Robinson.

Carrots -- this dieter's best friend

Yep. That's right:

I am writing about carrots.

Little ones, long ones, even carrots that sport colors beyond the traditional orange.

I usually eat a pound bag of them every day. (My vision is not improving.) However, without carrots I would not be able to survive this diet. They're my preferred and definitely safest late-night snack. Jenny Craig's program allows one to indulge in as many as I can each day. They are a 'free' food.

Thank goodness. I get starved late at night as I am trying to freelance my children's education through various moonlighting projects. My sanity is bundled with the humble, slender, and crunchy carrot.

Fortunately, they are very portable and easy to find in nearly every grocery store. I've munched many a bagful of the pre-washed bullet-sized carrots while on the road.

I have made a few recipes to get me through the monotony: shredded with a non-fat/non-sugary coleslaw-styled dressing. I have also used white wine to make a saute of diced carrots. And I've made the occasional stir-fry with carrots.

Should anyone have any good carrot recipes, feel free to post -- please.

PS -- You can find anything on the Internet: such as the World Carrot Museum

Lost 1 Pound This Week

I had hoped for more ... but I'll take it.

This week, I will have to find more time for exercise. That'll help me lose another pound next week.

Dieting Week Four | Using Jenny Craig

Started Dieting Four Weeks Ago, Right at the Start of the New Year.

My wife, Anne, and I started our diet the day after New Years Day. We're using the Jenny Craig program.

We've used Jenny before. Many years ago, we both wanted to look good for our wedding. Anne used Jenny, and I followed along -- not buying the prepared meals mind you, but following the guidelines for losing weight or maintaining your weight loss. I lost twenty pounds, and I felt great.

Now, my goal is to get back to what I weighed when we were married: That's one hundred and fifty (150) pounds. I have to lose sixty-three pounds. I estimate it will take eight months, perhaps as many as ten. Anne has less to lose, and here we are into our fifth week and she is nearing the half-way mark of her goal.

The people at the Jenny center are all pretty nice. I feel a bit odd, being one of the very few men who seem to be involved with the Jenny program. However, it is working -- I have lost twelve (12) pounds in four weeks -- and it has worked for me in the past. So I am sticking to it.

But it is unusual to see on the walls of the center big posters of Mariah Carey, knowing that she is a role-model for women, the Jenny program's primary group of members. I look up at her image, with Carey commanding the stage all haughty and confident, and don't feel any sort of affinity or inspiration.

Good thing I am dieting with my wife: She is my inspiration ... and hero.

Please feel free to comment.
