Started Dieting Four Weeks Ago, Right at the Start of the New Year.
My wife, Anne, and I started our diet the day after New Years Day. We're using the Jenny Craig program.
We've used Jenny before. Many years ago, we both wanted to look good for our wedding. Anne used Jenny, and I followed along -- not buying the prepared meals mind you, but following the guidelines for losing weight or maintaining your weight loss. I lost twenty pounds, and I felt great.
Now, my goal is to get back to what I weighed when we were married: That's one hundred and fifty (150) pounds. I have to lose sixty-three pounds. I estimate it will take eight months, perhaps as many as ten. Anne has less to lose, and here we are into our fifth week and she is nearing the half-way mark of her goal.
The people at the Jenny center are all pretty nice. I feel a bit odd, being one of the very few men who seem to be involved with the Jenny program. However, it is working -- I have lost twelve (12) pounds in four weeks -- and it has worked for me in the past. So I am sticking to it.
But it is unusual to see on the walls of the center big posters of Mariah Carey, knowing that she is a role-model for women, the Jenny program's primary group of members. I look up at her image, with Carey commanding the stage all haughty and confident, and don't feel any sort of affinity or inspiration.
Good thing I am dieting with my wife: She is my inspiration ... and hero.
